And now, a special word from Jim Perry on the set of Card Sharks (1978)....

"WELL, that is all the time we have for now.

"Julie and Philip, I hope you will come back with us next time and finish the match. You're a couple of of delightful people. I must say one of, one of the joys of doing this show is meeting nice people like you!

"Hope you're having a very pleasant holiday season! Be very careful; have a most pleasant holiday all the way through, okay?

"Thank you for joining us; now, we'll see you next time on Card Sharks!

"'Bye, 'bye!"

Keeping it trivial....

  1. Merry belated Christmas to you, Fang! Just now getting around to seeing this. I haven't seen Card Sharks in years and barely even remember it. I should really tune in to the Game Show Network and re-familiarize myself with these shows.

  2. On the Christmas Day Card Sharks episode from which the picture was taken, one of the ladies handling the over-sized decks of cards was a young Markie Post (Night Court)!

Jim Perry was a likeably square game show host, but I first saw him on the later show Sale of the Century, so these reuns are new to me!

Currently, only four shows on GSN are vintage in nature: old episodes of Family Feud with Richard Dawson, Match Game, $25,000 Pyramid and CS; reruns of other games that aired on the channel in years past are readily found on YouTube, such as installments of The Price is Right!

Have yourself a Happy New Tear, venoms5!

  3. I love me some Markie Post! It's a shame the NIGHT COURT series doesn't sell may units. It's taken about a decade to get just the first two seasons out. And it was really popular back then, too.

  4. I liked it considerably, too! Once Marsha Warfield signed on to fill in the Selma/Florence void, the stories started getting very cartoony, however, and I preferred the shows when they were more grounded in reality. (The creator of Night Court previously wrote for Barney Miller.) Fine early on, but it overstayed its welcome!

Markie is great in the unsold TV pilot for Electrawoman and Dynagirl she did back in the early 2000's; look for it on YouTube!

Oops! I meant to write above "Happy New YEAR", venoms5! Have a great one, just the same!

  5. Me, personally, I think the show finally found its voice once they settled on a regular bailiff ie Warfield's character. I like them all, though. Didn't the 'Coyote' end up on an episode or two at one point?

I didn't realize they were doing another DYNAGIRL in 2000! Markie Post was super hot on an episode of CHEERS where she played Diane's friend who Sam thought was trying to get into his pants.

  6. I had no problems with Warfield, too! It was quite a gesture for her (at the time) to stop smoking for the show, considering Selma and Florence both died of cancer!

"Regime change" behind the scenes eventually worked its way to the quality of the scripts, taking a gradual toll on all the featured players. When they added those extra cast members near the end, the producers were waving a white flag!

You're right about Wile E. Coyote, venoms5! Now, THAT bit with him was FUNNY!

Markie's appearance on Cheers was good, too! Also, she was an eyeful in those bikinis the few times she wore them on The Fall Guy! ;o)

  7. I don't think I ever watched THE FALL GUY, but I'd watch it to see Markie in those skimpy clothes!

During that time, I rarely had time for anything that didn't feature monsters and kung fu.

  8. Currently, episodes of The Fall Guy with Markie are not available on DVD, so there's a wait ahead for all interested! It's a decent show, created by Glen E. Larson (also Alias Smith and Jones, Battlestar Galactica and Automan), but I'd say wait for a sale (and/or Markie) before taking the plunge (or renting)!

I recall an article from the late '80s about Markie where it mentioned how she regretted (somewhat) doing those scenes in bikinis. Remembering what I saw back then, I understand why. For all her shapeliness, I've always considered her to be no dummy (she played The $25,000 Pyramid well in some recent GSN reruns), so I figure she did it biting her tongue all the way!
